Some people readily assume that virtual data entry jobs are tantamount to a simple clerical office job. Well, this assumption is not entirely wrong, only inaccurate. It is true that data entry can be classified as a clerical or secretarial work, but in the realm of outsourcing, it takes more than just a basic secretarial skill in order to be qualified as a data entry staff.
The main source of this confusion and ambiguity would probably be the long list of tasks that can be qualified under this service. Some tasks require basic computer knowledge, while some require higher technical skills, especially with the internet. The only constant skill requirement is the ability to use computer and internet, since this has usually been a job outsourced, thus done virtually.
This job may sound easy, but for busy business owners, this is something that can truly take their precious time that they would rather use spending on more important tasks – this is apparently the main reason why so many businesses choose to outsource this task. Most if not all of data entry tasks these days require internet research, prior to the input processes itself. True enough, anyone can do this job, but not anyone can do it brilliantly. Every business requires specific data, and amidst all the information crowding the cyberspace, it is tough to acquire only the richest data for that business. It would always take someone who knows how the search engines play their game, meaning a virtual data entry staff who knows the most accurate or strategic keywords to use, how to assess a website’s credibility, and how to make the entire work faster. Apparently, this kind of skill needs more than a simple knowledge of the internet.
There are also data entry tasks that do not require too much internet research but knowledge on new software or programs. This only means that the virtual staff also needs to be updated with the latest innovations in order to be competitive enough.
Some of the common types of data entry tasks are online entry, offline entry, image entry, and insurance claim entry.
