Having a customer service advisor job is more than just answering the phones.
Okay yes, there are phones to be picked up and emails to be responded to; however the customer service advisor is not simply an answering service – they are the linchpin of an organization. They are the cog around which all the other functions revolve.
It is their job to take orders, liaise with partners, or solve queries and issues that brings in the business. The customer services team is vitally important as they generate a lot of profit.
As the first point of contact for a customer with an organization, the customer service advisors are effectively ambassadors for the company. They create the first – and often lasting – impression; dictating the quality of customer experience. They may be dealing with complaints, but if dealt with in a courteous and respectful manner, it can compel the customer use the company’s services again.
Therefore the importance of the customer service advisor can never be underestimated.
Admittedly, there will be times when there is an angry customer on the line, but this is where the customer service advisor’s training and thick skin snap into action. As an experienced member of the team, no amount of shouting and grumbling can detract the advisor from carrying out their job to the best of their ability. Placating people is a part of their role and one in which they have developed fine skills.
One thing that is very often commented upon within the customer services sector is the tight knit, fun team environment that exists and the exciting social life which team-mates share. Nights out, team away days and lots of other activities prevail, not only to allow colleagues to better get to know each other, but to create a far nicer working atmosphere.
In all, the customer service advisor role is one that creates huge job satisfaction, respect and a sense of value – their contribution to an organization is essential. No wonder so many people want a job in this sector.
